2000 Children across 10 government schools have access to improved seating in Gurugram

5th March, 2018, Nathupur, Gurugram: The G.P.S. Primary School (Boys), Nathupur, Gurugram witnessed handover function of 1000 dual desks by United Way Delhi to Dy. Commissioner of Gurugram in presence of District and Block Education functionaries, principals of several schools and children. The dual desks donation is a part of United Way Delhi’s School Support program which aims to strengthen government schooling system, is being generously supported by various corporate donors through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
2,000 students from 10 Government Schools in Gurugram district will have access to improved seating because of the donated desks. These children were sitting on floor before the intervention.
United Way Delhi facilitated distribution of 1000 dual desks that were donated to GPS Sanchouli, GPS KirankiKherli, GPS Darbaripur, GPS Damdama, GPS Badshahpur(Girls), GMS + GPS NayaBehrampur, G.P.S. Silani, G.P.S.Sakatpur, GSSS Bhondsi and GPS Nathupur in Gurugram and adjoining areas.
Lakhs of children in Delhi NCR have to sit on floor for 6 hours at stretch in any given weather and concentrate on classroom teaching. Besides lack of concentration for many children, postural issues also effect the students.
As a part of School Support Program, the Desk Donation Campaign is UWD’s initiative to provide children from marginalized communities, their basic right to sit comfortably and participate effectively in the learning process. Over the last couple of years, UWD has been able to provide a comfortable dignified seating space to more than 12000+ children from marginalized communities across 30+ government schools.

UWD is one of the 7 independent United Way’s operating in India under the United Way of India network. UWD works towards bringing about sustainable change in the communities through several intensive programs in education, health, environment, livelihood, women’s empowerment and disaster response.
UWD’s School Support Program (SSP)
School Support Program, is a comprehensive program initiated by UWD in consultation and approval of local government authorities to provide support to government schools so that they can improve overall learning experience and outcomes. The thrust of the program is to develop better infrastructure, sanitation, teaching\ learning support for teachers and working on strengthening students and parents\ SMC engagement thereby creating a better learning environment for them. Various activities and workshops are organized in these schools from time to time for holistic development of students.
